As with the Sopwith Camel Museum Series model the first component to be assembled is the engine. Continue reading FOKKER DR.1 – HASEGAWA 1:8 (PART 2) Engine

FOKKER DR.1 – HASEGAWA 1:8 (PART 1)
So with the Camel build complete, the next model makes its way onto the table. Continue reading FOKKER DR.1 – HASEGAWA 1:8 (PART 1)
SOPWITH CAMEL F1 – HASEGAWA 1:8 (PART 15) Final Assembly
I had hoped to be able to write this post a bit earlier, but I’ve been waiting in vain for some good weather to take a series of photographs of the model in a decent setting out doors where there is the space to do so. However, it’s either been too dull, windy or just plain raining recently. I will get some better pictures as soon as I can, but in the meantime a few gash ones taken quickly will have to suffice. Continue reading SOPWITH CAMEL F1 – HASEGAWA 1:8 (PART 15) Final Assembly
SOPWITH CAMEL F1 – HASEGAWA 1:8 (PART 14) Seat and Coaming
Having finished the fuselage the one thing that did remain to be completed was the installation of the seat and fitting of the padding around the cockpit rim. Continue reading SOPWITH CAMEL F1 – HASEGAWA 1:8 (PART 14) Seat and Coaming
SOPWITH CAMEL F1 – HASEGAWA 1:8 (PART 13) FUSELAGE COMPLETION
Having finished the cockpit area of the fuselage I couldn’t resist fitting the aluminium panels to complete the picture. Continue reading SOPWITH CAMEL F1 – HASEGAWA 1:8 (PART 13) FUSELAGE COMPLETION
SOPWITH CAMEL F1 – HASEGAWA 1:8 (PART 12) FUSELAGE Continued

SOPWITH CAMEL F1 – HASEGAWA 1:8 (PART 11) Fuselage
Having successfully dodged the main event in this model I’d reached the stage where I had to get going with the fuselage. I don’t know why I’d been putting it off, but I had. Continue reading SOPWITH CAMEL F1 – HASEGAWA 1:8 (PART 11) Fuselage
SOPWITH CAMEL F1 – HASEGAWA 1:8 (PART 10) FIN & RUDDER
The fin and rudder were entirely scratch built as it wasn’t worth trying to convert the kit parts. Continue reading SOPWITH CAMEL F1 – HASEGAWA 1:8 (PART 10) FIN & RUDDER
SOPWITH CAMEL F1 – HASEGAWA 1:8 (PART 9) Tailplane
The tailplane of the Hasegawa kit is known to not be its strongest point. The structure has been simplified, I assume because of manufacturing limitations, to the point where it is quite compromised when compared to the real aircraft. That combined with my substitution of metal parts where the kit uses wood has meant that very little of the original kit has made it into the model. In fact the main spar and leading edge are all that’s left. Continue reading SOPWITH CAMEL F1 – HASEGAWA 1:8 (PART 9) Tailplane
SOPWITH CAMEL F1 – HASEGAWA 1:8 (PART 8) MAINPLANE COVERING & PAINTING
With the wings assembled I turned to the finishing of them. This took two different routes for the port and starboard pairs. The starboard ones were stained and varnished, while the port ones were covered and painted. Continue reading SOPWITH CAMEL F1 – HASEGAWA 1:8 (PART 8) MAINPLANE COVERING & PAINTING
